Skekmal's Bone Knife

Skekmal is a character from The Dark Crystal, Skekmal is owned by Universal Entertainment

This bone knife hangs from Skekmal's belt and is at risk of breaking depending on material.

Reference images are few and far between for this character and leads to a new challenge.

The first version is molded from oil-based clay so it will not break from future processes

The back half of the model is a guess of what the original may have looked like due to limited references.

The clay model is placed into two part silicone and left to create the mold.

The clay is removed from the mold and melted skillet glue replaces it.

Skillet glue is poured in a total of 5 pours
The glue cools and hardens and is then removed.

Additional hot glue is added to some sections that air pockets developed in.

A three tone mini scumble is applied the whole of the knife

Salmon detail painting is added to the raised marks

Paint is let dry and then bushed with watered down brown and black which is wiped away leaving it in the cracks and edges,

The knife is finished.
